About Alchemy

Welcome to Alchemy, the online newsletter for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS) at Sheridan College.

Alchemy is a biannual publication, published around the middle of the Fall and Winter academic semesters, with the goal of connecting readers with the programs and pursuits that make our Faculty such an exciting, innovative, and creative place in which to learn, teach, and work. As former FHASS Dean Has Malik wrote in his introduction to our first issue, “Alchemy is a mirror that reflects an important aspect of who we are as a Faculty, and it is a vehicle to share our achievements with each other and with the larger Sheridan community.”

Alchemy was founded by Professor Sarah Tsiang in 2013, and has been helmed by Professor Owen Percy since 2014.

Alchemy’s Mission Statement:

Alchemy is a connectivity hub designed to celebrate, illustrate, and share the diverse interests and pursuits of all members of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS) amongst ourselves, our colleagues at Sheridan, and our larger communities that transcend traditional institutional boundaries. With an emphasis on pedagogy, research, and interdisciplinarity, Alchemy aspires to embody our ever-evolving culture of creativity and to be both a platform and voice for who we are, what we do, how we do it, and why.
