Meet Karen MacDonald, Academic Portfolio Administrator

Mid-September brought the newest Academic Portfolio Administrator, Karen MacDonald, to the FHASS team.

Prior to joining Sheridan, Karen was the Manager of Audience Services at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre. She was a key member of the management team who opened the newly constructed performing arts centre. Involved in recruiting the patron services and volunteer teams, she also advanced all details of daily events. Prior to moving to Burlington, Karen served as Finance and Support Services Coordinator at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery and the Administrative, Development and Marketing Assistant at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.

An alumna of the University of Guelph, Karen has a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts.  Outside of work, Karen enjoys gardening, baking, badminton and yoga and has recently taken up the art of crochet.

Most important lesson I learned in kindergarten: Playfulness.

Moment in my life I’d like to re-live: Past colleagues caroling at my front door on a snowy winter evening.

My idea of perfect happiness: Sitting fireside on the beach at Little Doctor Lake on the edge of Nahanni National Park Reserve, NWT.

My idea of complete misery: The buzzing of mosquitoes while attempting to sleep.

My favourite word: Mindful.

The talent or skill I wish I had: To sing boldly (and preferably in key).

On my bucket list: Complete a cross-Canada tour (East to West, North to South).

My favourite food: Pie (sweet & savoury).

My favourite painter/artist: Alberto Giacometti, Simon Starling

My favourite singer/musicians: Andrew Bird, Jill Barber
