Meet Joanne Stewart, Academic Upgrading

My name is Joanne Stewart. I’ve been working as part-time support staff for the Academic Upgrading department for about seven years, and prior to working at Sheridan I was a stay at home mom to my one daughter. Though I finished school a while ago I recently started taking more courses at Sheridan as I feel we can never learn too much. Though I’ve held many different jobs in my lifetime, from working in a wood production company to working in a photolab I have to say that working at Sheridan has been the most rewarding and fun for me. In Academic Upgrading we are helping people further their academic careers and work towards graduation; hearing former students talk about their post-secondary experience after attending upgrading makes us feel great.

Joanne Stewart answers Alchemy’s Proust Questionnaire:

Most important lesson I learned in kindergarten: We are all responsible for ourselves and our own actions.

Most important lesson I learned this year: Not to take people for granted–you never know when we are going to lose them.

My idea of perfect happiness: Spending time with my family; we could be doing nothing and that doesn’t matter, it’s being together that matters.

My favourite word: Dude

My least favourite word: Moist. It just sounds gross.

My favourite quotation, motto, or phrase: I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

The word/phrase/expression I overuse in life: “I know right!?” (And that drives my daughter crazy because that’s a “teenage” expression.)

Language I’d love to be able to speak: Anything other than English. French, Spanish, or German.

Talent or skill I wish I had: Juggling. It looks fun.

My favourite food: Pizza.

Most embarrassing song in my music collection: “Ice, Ice, Baby” by Vanilla Ice.

My guilty TV pleasure: Reality shows (specifically the Teen Mom series)
