Episode 3- Ritual and Routine

In Episode 3 of Poet Voice, I discuss writing rituals, establishing a routine, and staying flexible. I read the poem, “Resilient in Rain” from Barbara Tran’s Precedented Parroting, recently shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award!

Prompts:

1) Write a poem or story about the difficulty of writing, writer’s block, or the idea of struggling to write. You could take this idea of “writing rituals” to the extreme, describing a character who requires a specific set of ideal circumstances to write, such as a particular room temperature, a specific song playing on the radio, or perhaps for the stars to align in a precise way.

2) Challenge yourself to write every single day, whether it’s for a few minutes, or a few hours. This could mean jotting down ideas for a poem or story on the bus, texting a line or image to yourself in between classes, or sitting down to draft or revise a new piece.
