ESL Student Wins International Student Photo Contest
By: Prof. Tahani Al Taha
Recently, one of my ESL Advanced students at HMC, Dong Quach, won the first prize of the Sheridan International Student Photo Contest. Dong followed all the required specifications listed on the contest instructions guide, and he met the eligibility criteria. Dong submitted three photos that he captured in Vietnam and Canada. The judging committee was composed of staff and students. Fortunately, he won the first prize for the three of them, and his photos will be posted on the Sheridan College website or other social media platforms and may be used in print pieces, at events and in promotional materials for Sheridan College. For the prize and the other advantages, Dong feels very excited, and his classmates, and class instructor, Tahani Al Taha are celebrating this achievement soon.
Because it is an ESL class, the students were asked to write a writing journal, reflecting their opinions on the three photos of Dong, and expressing what implications those photos may have based on their opinions. This activity will come under the discussions section on Slate where students will first state their opinions, and then agree or disagree with their classmates’ opinions.
Congratulations to Dong, and thanks for sharing your photos below!
