FHASS Professors win two CCSIF Grants!

FHASS continues to make its mark on community, provincial, and national research stages. On June 17, 2016, Minister of Science, the Honourable Kristy Duncan, announced that Sheridan proposals had been awarded a total of three sizable grants from the Community and College Social Innovation Fund (CCSIF), representing a total of more than half a million dollars in research funding. We are proud to announce that FHASS can claim two of those grant-winning proposals as our own! Professor Kirsten Madsen’s ongoing research on bullying among seniors was awarded a three-year, $240,000 (approx.) grant to allow the project and partnership between Sheridan’s Centre for Elder Research and Elder Abuse Ontario to flourish. Also, professors Sara Cumming and Mike McNamara received a grant of approximately $174,000 to fund their proposed project, “The Community Ideas Factory,” which will pair Sheridan’s expertise in research and creativity with the Oakville Community Foundation’s ongoing initiatives in addressing vital local issues like the equity gap, affordable housing, inclusivity, and mental health.
