ESL Welcome Event
The ESL program hosted a Welcome Event for all ESL students on January 24, 2013. There were about 70 students in attendance including some students from Davis who came on a yellow school bus. The evening was potluck and students brought foods from their home country as well as some Canadian favorites. There were a few activities during the evening where students mingled and got to know new people including teachers from other classes, levels and the other campus. The evening featured a guest speaker, former ESL student, Arsenii Pustovit who completed EAP and is now enrolled in Computer Systems Technology- Systems Analyst at Sheridan. The evening rounded out with some lively karaoke and traditional line dancing.
This evening represented the first key event hosted by the ESL Club. Other club activities include Movie Nights and local excursions. The aim is to get students to meet each other, make contacts and most importantly, have fun and practice their communication skills. The club is expanding and the goal is to have more student-driven activities and student organization of events. As well, these happenings now represent the opportunity for students to gain the Co-Curricular Record (CCR). The ESL club also has a facebook page, come and see all the great things they’re up to: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sheridan-ESL-Club/159927070830390
