CW&P Celebrates New Milestones!

The Creative Writing & Publishing Degree continues to celebrate its victories. We celebrated several milestones this year:

  • In Fall 2024 our largest cohort of interns ever (60) went out into the working world and completed positions at Big Five, mid-level, and small press publishers, cultural and arts organizations, and arts-adjacent companies
  • We welcomed our 2024-2025 Writer-in-Residence, Cassidy McFadzean, who has kept busy visiting classes, holding office hours, and publishing her bi-weekly podcast, POET VOICE
  • On Aug. 25 CW&P alum Jacob Alvarado (Class of 2023) launched his debut chapbook, I Can Make It All Up To You,  (knife | fork | book), at The Printed Word, in Dundas. Jacob also continued his work as an Executive Assistant at The Giller Prize
  • Writer and CW&P alum Mikaela Lucido (Class of 2021) launched her debut novel with Annick Press, Danica De La Torre: Certified Sleuth!
  • CW&P alum Ashley Haynes joined FHASS as a digital content and social media specialist
  • The Ampersand Review of Writing & Publishing continued its robust schedule of community programming by welcoming poets and writers like Damian Tarnopolsky, Danila Botha, Natasha Ramoutar, Liz Worth, Michelle Winters, Rebecca Rosenblum, Faith Arkoful, and Jean Marc Ah-Sen for its monthly Reading Series. Additionally, with funding from the Ontario Arts Council, the magazine was able to launch the monthly Ampersand Review Writing Series where they brought writers Lindsay Zier-Vogel, Stuart Ross, and Gary Barwin to campus to lead workshops for community members and CW&P students.
  • The 2024 edition of The & Festival took place on Oct. 4 & 5, featuring a day of student-focused workshops and a day of professional industry panels. The event culminated in a keynote address by the inimitable poet, fiction writer (and former CW&P faculty member) Canisia Lubrin. • Student-led journal B222 launched its 4th issue, featuring work from across Sheridan’s programs. Get your copy here: https://www.b222journal.ca/get-a-copy
  • CW&P launched the inaugural CW&P Creative Writing Contest—a multi-genre writing contest for high school seniors from across Ontario. We received more than 60 submissions that were read and assessed by a volunteer (CCR) committee of CW&P students. The winner of the contest received $500 and the two runners-up were awarded $250
  • On Nov. 17 we hosted our most successful Open House since 2017
  • On Nov. 28 we hosted Associate Literary Agent Tasneem Motala (The Rights Factory) for an event called Agent Talk where students got the chance to ask an agent about query letters, proposals, and how to approach potential publishers.

Good work everyone!
