Dr. Alia Somani delivers talks for BHM and The Tubman Institute
This semester has been a busy one for FHASS’s own Dr. Alia Somani, Professor of Postcolonial Literature. First, Alia gave a talk at the Black History Month Kick-Off Celebration in February. The event was hosted by the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton in partnership with the Oakville Museum, and her talk was titled “Remembering Viola Desmond.”
Alia was also invited to present her research at the Harriet Tubman Institute at York University. Alia’s presentation, “Troubling Nostalgia: Reading the ‘Untold Stories’ of Indians in Africa,” was delivered on March 23, 2017.
As if that weren’t enough to keep her busy, Alia is also overseeing the upcoming Voices of South Asia event slated for May 25th, 2017. Read more about that exciting event here. Great work, Alia!
